SUPDOG Workshop Feb 15th Kaimana's

Trades from the east were making gusts across the Ridgeline. Some buildings at Kaimana’s provided a perfect place to take shelter and find smoother water. I loaded up three rentals from Blue Planet, my personal 11’0, 9’4, SUP’s and our 12’0 Tuf Tech Long board. I was able to fit the 9’4 inside the Wolfpack van. All others got strapped on top the roof with some Dakine Tie down straps.

6:30am

I arrive, unload and assemble all gear in the grass. SUP boards, paddles, leashes, life jackets, PHOENIX, treats, towels, and recording gear.

Four confirmed dogs arrived, which was perfect for the amount of equipment I brought.

Ziva, a 65 pound chocolate lab, and her owner Nicole,

G’Nort, A rambunctious first time SUPDOG, and his owner Scott,

The adorable angel white little Trixe, and her owner Natalie,

and massive Melo, with his owner Jen. Jen also brought a cute little tag along pup too.

Just as the Sunlight begin rising over the Ridgeline we began our second SUPDOG demo day. I first introduced myself, thanked everyone for being here, and introduced our demo day Wolfpack as well. I assigned boards for everyone, and had all pups introduced to their boards. We then went over basic stand up paddle boarding techniques, our equipment, and the current conditions for the day. I had to stress the implications of offshore winds. It’s important to understand that these winds can push you father away for the beach line. So I reminded everyone to stay close to shore.

We were stoked to see all of the pups enjoying each other’s company. Live sprints, dodges and marathons took place once we brought everyone to the shoreline. Exercise prior to SUPDOG activity is recommended for the dog to reach an ample heart rate in preparation for swimming.

We repeated our board familiarity drills, skills, and commands prior to approaching the water. I showed everyone an example of how Phoenix and I attempt our board mount. Then, one by one, brought everyone to the water, aiding in their initial entry and helped with vocal instructions.

Wow. An amazing sight. Three BRAND NEW SUPDOG’s and two NEW OWNERS all standing and paddling with ease.Thankfully the wind had died down a bit by the time we hit the water. The hotels provided some ample protection from the slowing trade gusts.

Once everyone hit the water it was quite a spectacle. Two addition dog owners on a morning stroll approached with questions about our ongoing event. I scheduled both of them for free private lessons for the upcoming week.

All in all, our second demo day was a major success and we look forward to hosting more in the upcoming months.
